12 Imported Dengue Fever Cases Reported in Taiwan Last Week: Taiwan CDC

Taipei: Taiwan reported 12 new imported dengue fever cases from July 15-21, marking the highest single-week total this year, the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced Tuesday. The cases were imported from several countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia, as per the CDC's detailed report.

According to Focus Taiwan, CDC Epidemic Intelligence Center Director Kuo Hung-wei revealed at a routine news conference that all 109 confirmed cases of dengue fever in Taiwan this year have been imported. A significant 91.7 percent of these cases originated from Southeast Asia. Indonesia has contributed the most with 45 cases, followed by Vietnam with 16, the Philippines with 13, Thailand with 12, and the Maldives with 8.

CDC Deputy Director General Lo Yi-chun highlighted a concerning rise in dengue cases in China's Guangdong Province, which has reached its highest count for this time of the year in six years. In light of this development, the CDC has elevated its travel health notice for Guangdong to "Level 1: Watch," advising travelers to exercise usual precautions.
