2 cold air waves forecast to hit Taiwan bringing lows of 13 degrees

Two waves of cold air are expected to hit Taiwan over the next seven days, with lows of 13 degrees Celsius forecast for much of the island, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Sunday.

The mercury will begin to dip from Sunday evening and the cold wave will be strongest between Tuesday and Wednesday morning due to the effects of approaching northeasterly winds, forecaster Chao Hung (??) told CNA.

During this time, areas north of Taoyuan and the eastern half of Taiwan will see brief showers, Chao said.

On Monday, highs in northern Taiwan will hover between 15-18 degrees and over 20 degrees elsewhere, with lows in areas north of Tainan around 14-16 degrees and 17-18 degrees in the rest of the country, Chao said.

Between Tuesday night and early Wednesday, the mercury is forecast to dip to 15-13 degrees in much of Taiwan proper, and below 10 degrees in Kinmen and Matsu, according to the CWB.

It will weaken from the daytime of Wednesday, pushing up temperatures nationwide on Thursday, before another strengthening cold air wave comes close on Friday and blankets the country through Sunday, Chao said.

Chao reminded the public to stay aware of foggy conditions in some areas in the western half on Thursday and Friday.
