Taipei--Thirty-four out of 35 Taiwanese nationals who were arrested Monday by Hungarian police for alleged involvement in an illegal gambling operation in Budapest have been released after questioning, with the exception of the main suspect, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Wednesday.
Hungarian police informed Taiwan's representative office in Hungary a day earlier that they found a total of 35 Taiwanese men and women and a number of laptops, mobile phones and tablets at a house in Budapest.
Following a search of the house, police determined that an illegal gambling operation was being run from the building.
The Taiwanese were interviewed by police through an interpreter.
Taiwan's representative office in Hungary has sent personnel to visit the Taiwanese involved in the case and help police to deal with the matter, the ministry said.
The Taiwanese citizen still in detention is being held on charges of organizing illegal gambling, according to the ministry.
The ministry said it will ask the representative office to keep a close watch as the case develops.
