Changhua:Taipei Taiwanese aerospace company Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. (AIDC) announced its involvement in the Agency of Corrections' first-ever counter-drone drill conducted earlier this month.
According to Focus Taiwan, the exercise took place on September 18 at Changhua Prison and was part of a broader effort to test the Ministry of Justice's anti-riot Ching An Squad's preparedness. During the drill, a scenario was enacted in which a drone carrying contraband breached the prison compound. The counter-drone system activated warnings and gathered evidence, leading to the autonomous location of the drone's operator, after which a squad member neutralized the drone using a jammer.
The counter-drone system used in the exercise features "smart" detection capabilities, combining active radar, a radio frequency detector, and jammers, with a detection range of 5 kilometers. AIDC emphasized that the system can identify the make of incoming drones and locate their pilots, and it is powered by artificial intelligence to prioritize targets based on threat level.
AIDC President Chuang Hsiu-mei highlighted that the system, which debuted at the 2025 Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition, has been refined since its introduction. Chuang assured that the system is entirely free of Chinese components, eliminating information security threats. The system's design is open-ended, allowing for rapid integration with various sensors and equipment from other manufacturers, thereby enhancing its flexibility and scalability.
