Airline cabin cleaner infected with COVID-19 visited Xinzhuang Costco

An airline cabin cleaner at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport who was recently confirmed as having COVID-19 visited a Costco store in New Taipei’s Xinzhuang District before being found to have the virus, the city’s Department of Health said Thursday.

The woman, who is in her 20s, developed a runny nose and dizziness on Sept. 12. She tested positive for COVID-19 two days later as part of routine testing conducted by Taoyuan International Airport Services Co. (TIAS).

The TIAS is one of the largest airline ground handling providers at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and is a subsidiary of China Airlines Group.

On Sept. 10, the woman visited Xinzhuang Old Street on Xinzhuang Road in the morning and stopped at FamilyMart’s Wumiao Store in the afternoon, the department said.

At 1:49 p.m. the same day, she went to another FamilyMart store on Xinfeng Street before visiting Costco’s Xinzhuang branch on Jianguo 1st Road at 4:58 p.m., it added.

The Central Epidemic Command Center on Wednesday said the test results indicate the woman contracted the disease very recently, and it is investigating the possibility she was infected as a result of her work.
