All aboard Delta Airlines safe after system abnormality
All 232 people on Delta Airlines flight DL166 from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Tokyo's Narita Airport were reported safe after the plane experienced a system abnormality and rerouted to land in Naha Airport in Okinawa, aviation authorities in Japan said Tuesday.
According to Naha Airport staff, 222 passengers and 10 crew members were evacuated from the Boeing 767-300 jet that departed Taiwan at 9:40 a.m. and was scheduled to land in Tokyo at 2:15 p.m.
An abnormality was detected in the plane's cabin pressure control system, and the aircraft landed in Okinawa at 12:46 p.m.
The emergency situation did not pose a direct threat to flight safety, the airport said, adding that the unscheduled landing was purely a precautionary measure.
