Taipei, Belizean Senate President Lee Mark Chang expressed his hope for future fishery technology exchanges between Taiwan and Belize, after a visit to related facilities in the southern county of Pingtung Thursday.
Chang said he hopes Taiwan and Belize can step up cooperation while visiting a fisheries research institute and a biotechnology research center in Pingtung's Tungkang Township that day, accompanied by Taiwan's Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan
In addition to introducing Chang to Taiwan's current aquaculture research and development programs and achievements in the field during the visit, he was also shown various species of fish and shrimp, including their breeding programs and pest control measures.
Chang was said to have shown a particular interest in lobster breeding.
Pingtung County has very developed agricultural and fishery sectors, Su said, adding that the local climate is very similar to that in Belize. As such, he hopes the county can serve as a template for future construction in Belize, thereby creating a win-win situation.
Taiwan is delighted to expand its cooperation with Belize across a wide range of fields, Su said.
