Taichung:A tourist from Myanmar was declared dead at a hospital after being found unconscious in a shallow-water wave pool at a popular water park in central Taiwan. The incident occurred at Lihpao Land in Houli District, and no cause of death had been determined as of Monday afternoon.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Taichung Fire Bureau received a report around 2:02 p.m. about the 52-year-old man, who appeared to have no vital signs when discovered unconscious. Firefighters found him without any apparent external injuries and in a state of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Emergency treatment was administered at the scene before he was transported to the Dajia branch of Lee's General Hospital. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police stated they will refer the case to prosecutors for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The man, who was visiting the park with his wife after renting a car, was found lying face down in the wave pool of the park's Mala Bay attraction during the busy Mid-Autumn Festival holiday weekend.

Visitors reported seeing lifeguards perform emergency resuscitation and witnessed the man being carried away on a stretcher. The park operator expressed condolences but noted that the incident's cause remains under investigation and declined to provide further details, citing privacy concerns. Initial suspicions pointed to drowning, but the exact cause will be confirmed following a prosecutor's examination.
