Taipei: Two Taipei bus drivers involved in a collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian have been released on bail, according to police. The drivers, a 23-year-old woman surnamed Hsieh and a 54-year-old man surnamed Chen, were questioned by prosecutors on suspicion of negligent homicide.According to Focus Taiwan, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. in front of the Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel, located in Taipei's Zhongzheng District. The collision involved two city buses and a taxi, leaving a female pedestrian trapped under one of the buses.The preliminary investigation by police indicates that the accident took place when a Route 49 city bus, driven by Chen, was making a right turn and stopped to allow pedestrians to cross. Subsequently, a Route 312 city bus, driven by Hsieh, rear-ended Chen's bus, causing it to lurch forward and strike a pedestrian and a taxi that was stopped at a red light.Tragically, the pedestrian, a 50-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries at National Taiwan Universit y Hospital. In addition to the fatality, fifteen other individuals, including Chen and eight Thai tourists, sustained injuries during the accident.The eight Thai tourists experienced mild injuries and have since been discharged from the hospital. They are scheduled to return to Thailand on Monday.
