Bus, taxi operators to get subsidies in disease control efforts

Taipei,  Public road transport providers will be entitled to subsidies for equipment they obtain to protect drivers and passengers from the COVID-19 coronavirus disease, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) announced Monday.

Eligible applicants include city buses, inter-city buses, tour buses and taxis, the ministry said.

The first application phase will run from April 1-30, for equipment obtained from Jan. 15-March 31, while the second stage will last from July 1-31, for equipment obtained from April 1-June 30, the MOTC said.

Operators will be reimbursed for their expenses with a cap on each unit price, for specific equipment, including infrared forehead or ear thermometers, disinfectant, face masks, gloves and rubbing alcohol, the MOTC said.

The ministry has budgeted NT$1.138 billion (US$37.75 million) to reimburse road, air and marine travel operators for anti-pandemic expenses, with subsidies for air and marine sectors announced last week.
