A fishing boat capsized with five people aboard as it was being towed back to a harbor on Taiwan’s northern coast on Saturday night, leaving the captain of the ship missing and four foreign crew members slightly injured.
The incident occurred when the Chun Ji No. 8 fishing boat lost power and had another fishing boat tow it back to Caoli Fishing Harbor in New Taipei’s Shimen District. As they approached the harbor, the Chun Ji No. 8 suddenly capsized.
Of the five people on board, the four migrant workers were able to make it to shore with only superficial wounds, but the captain was still missing as of late Saturday night.
The migrant workers told rescuers mobilized to find the captain that he was in the wheelhouse when the vessel capsized, and they did not see him after that.
Rescue boats were unable to set out to the scene because of big waves, but rescuers were searching for the captain along the shore, according to the New Taipei Fire Department personnel at the scene.
