Taipei Taiwanese badminton ace Chou Tien-chen (???) failed again to topple world No. 1 Kento Momota of Japan, who was defending his title in the finals of the men's singles at the Fuzhou Open on Sunday.
Currently ranked as world No. 2, Chou lost 15-21, 21-17, 18-21 in a closely contested 82-minute game in the Chinese city, while Momota clinched his 10th title of the year.
It was Chou's second consecutive loss to Momota in the finals of the annual Fuzhou Open and his seventh straight defeat at the hands of the Japanese player.
Chou, 29, is now down 2-11 in his career matchups against Momota.
Nonetheless the Taiwanese has had a great year, winning three singles titles in Indonesia, Thailand and Taipei, respectively, in five finals so far.
The Fuzhou China Open, which is part of the BWF World Tour Super 750, was held Nov. 7-10, carrying a total purse of US$700,000.
