Cloudy to sunny skies forecast around Taiwan Tuesday
Taipei-Taiwan will see cloudy to sunny skies Tuesday as a northeasterly wind system has shown signs of weakening, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, in particular in southern Taiwan, where they will reach as high as 30 degrees Celsius, while the highs in northern and central Taiwan will be 23-24 degrees and 27 degrees, respectively, the CWB said.
Stable weather conditions are expected around Taiwan throughout the day, with only sporadic showers possible in eastern Taiwan and mountainous areas in the north, the CWB said.
The CWB warned of a wide day-night temperature gap, however, saying temperatures are likely to drop by 10 degrees at night in central and southern Taiwan and by about 6 degrees in the north.
The warm weather is expected to carry over to Christmas day before another northeasterly wind system sets in Thursday, the CWB said.
Despite the fading strength of the current wind system, big waves are possible in northern and eastern coastal areas, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula in the south due to the influence of the Tropical Storm Phanfone.
As of 8 a.m., the storm was located 1,490 kilometers south-southeast of Eluanbi, the southeast tip of Taiwan, and was moving toward the Philippines, according to the CWB.
The CWB said the storm is not expected to have any direct impact on Taiwan but could bring wet air to the south starting from Friday.
Meanwhile, the air quality around Taiwan was rated good to fair on Wednesday, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said.
