Taipei-- Several coffee shop chains in Taiwan will be seeking to get off to strong start in the Year of the Rooster by offering big discounts when people return to work Thursday after the six-day Lunar New Year holiday.
At Starbucks, one of the biggest coffee shop chains in Taiwan, customers will get a free drink of the same size and type for every one that they buy on Thursday, with the offer lasting until 8 p.m.
At Mr. Brown Cafe and Dante Coffee chain shops, there will also be a buy one, get one free offer on Thursday, but customers at Dante will be required to show coupons.
Taking it beyond Thursday, 85C Bakery Cafe will run its promotion for four days, offering a 50 percent discount on the second cup of coffee or milk tea, from Thursday to Sunday.
Meanwhile, convenience store and fast food chains will also be launching promotional efforts Thursday.
City Cafe, operated by the 7-Eleven convenience store chain, will be offering each customer a 50 percent discount on the second drink, from Thursday until Feb. 14.
In the period Feb. 2-20, customers at Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets around Taiwan will get a 50 percent discount on their second coffee order.
The Lunar New Year was celebrated Jan. 28, with the holiday lasting from Jan. 27 to Feb. 1 in Taiwan.
