Cold snap to peak overnight, with another arriving on Wednesday: CWB

Temperatures will drop into the single digits across much of Taiwan on Sunday night, before rebounding slightly in the next two days and then falling again as another cold front arrives on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

Overnight lows Sunday are expected to sink to 6-9 degrees Celsius in areas north of Tainan and 10-12 degrees in Kaohsiung, Pingtung and the Hualien-Taitung region, CWB forecaster Lin Ting-yi (???) told CNA.

Temperatures will rebound slightly during the day Monday, with highs of 16 degrees in Greater Taipei, 18 degrees elsewhere in the north, and 22-23 degrees in central and southern Taiwan, according to Lin.

Temperatures nationwide will rise by another 1-2 degrees on Tuesday, Lin said.

From Wednesday, however, a southward-moving system will bring another round of cold weather to Taiwan, with temperatures forecast to dip that day to 11-15 degrees in Greater Taipei, Lin said.

The cold front, which is expected to affect Taiwan through next weekend, will be comprised of relatively dry air, meaning that even at high elevations, the chances of a white Christmas are “probably quite small,” Lin said.
