Cool weather to last until Thursday with occasional showers

Cool weather brought by seasonal northeasterly winds is forecast to last until Thursday, with occasional brief showers likely in parts of northern and eastern Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Tuesday.

The cool weather will continue for the next two days while an arriving moisture system from the south is likely to bring rain to the north and east, with sunny to cloudy skies forecast for central and southern Taiwan, CWB forecaster Yeh Chih-chun (???) said.

Temperature lows of 14-16 degrees Celsius can be expected across Taiwan before Thursday, with stable weather returning nationwide as the northeasterly wind system begins to weaken the following day, Yeh said.

Between Friday and Saturday, highs of 19 degrees are forecast in the north, with 21-24 degrees in central and eastern Taiwan, and 25-27 degrees in south areas, he said.

Meanwhile, the forecaster added that high waves are possible off Keelung, northeastern coastal areas, eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula, on Wednesday.

According to the CWB, another cold weather system will approach the country on Sunday, bringing occasional showers to the north, east and central parts of the island.

The wet weather is expected to continue into next week as the northeasterly wind system intensifies, with lows of 14-15 degrees forecast for northern and eastern parts of the country.
