Taipei-The weather in northern Taiwan is forecast to remain cool with the chance of rain throughout Thursday, particularly around Keelung City, under the influence of northeasterly winds, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Temperatures in Greater Taipei, Keelung and Yilan County will reach no more than 21 degrees Celsius during the day, with nighttime lows falling to 16 degrees in some areas.
People in central and southern Taiwan are not expected to feel the effects of the northeasterly winds, with cloudy to sunny skies and daytime highs of 28 degrees forecast for those areas, the bureau said.
Meanwhile, strong winds and heavy seas can be expected in areas north of Tainan in eastern Taiwan -- including Green Island and Orchid Island -- on the Hengchun peninsula in the south, and around the outlying Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu islands, according to the CWB.
Due to the effects of the waves caused by the northeasterly winds, the Maritime and Port Bureau's East Maritime Affairs Center announced Thursday that ferry services between Taitung and Orchid Island will be suspended on Friday.
The service is scheduled to resume Saturday, the center said.
Meanwhile, the ferry from Taitung to Green Island will depart as normal at 9:30 a.m. Friday, but the return service, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. that morning, will be suspended.
However, the service will operate as normal later Friday, it added.
