Arrivals to Taiwan who wish to spend their quarantine and “self-initiated epidemic prevention” periods at different locations will be permitted to switch locations once, provided that they are approved to do so, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Wednesday.

Taiwan began its new “3+4” policy for arrivals to the country on Wednesday, requiring people to quarantine for three days, followed by four days of “self-initiated epidemic prevention.”

They can choose to stay at a quarantine hotel, at home, or at the home of a friend or relative, but should remain at the same location for the entirety of the seven days.

People who choose home quarantine should follow the one-person-per-residence rule, however, those who travel together can also quarantine in the same location.

Lo Yi-chun (???), deputy head of the CECC’s medical response division, said Wednesday that those who wish to spend their quarantine and self-initiated epidemic prevention periods in different locations are allowed to make the switch, but can only do so once.

They must apply for permission from the local government of the city/county where they are spending the self-initiated epidemic prevention period and should follow the one-person-per-residence rule.

Also on Wednesday, Lo said that travelers cannot stay in the same residence with family members or friends who were already in Taiwan during the four-day self-initiated epidemic prevention period as they still present an infection risk during this time.

Lo also said that people who are staying in quarantine hotels during the self-initiated epidemic prevention could be fined if they stay out overnight.

Individuals who stay out overnight or cannot be contacted by the hotels will be reported to the local government. If they are found to have violated disease prevention measures, they could be fined NT$10,000 (US$337) to NT$150,000, according to Lo.
