The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Monday evening that a colleague of a domestically transmitted COVID-19 case confirmed earlier in the day had also tested positive for the disease.
The earlier case involved a friend of the wife of a worker at Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan’s main international gateway, which has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases that originated overseas and triggered new infections that spread within Taiwan.
The case confirmed later Monday, involving a Taiwanese man in his 20s, brought the total number of domestic infections linked to the airport reported in the past week to 31.
More details on the new case will be disclosed at Tuesday’s CECC press briefing.
The elementary school that a relative of the man attends in Taoyuan’s Zhongli District will suspend classes on Tuesday as a precaution, according to a notice sent to the parents of the students.
