CORONAVIRUS/New round of bookings for COVID-19 booster shots to begin Wednesday

The government’s 1922 COVID-19 vaccination booking website will begin accepting appointments Wednesday for booster shots to be administered from March 7-13, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The bookings are open to people aged 18 and above who received their second vaccine shot on or before Dec. 19, the CECC said.

People aged 55 and above will be able to book a booster shot from 10 a.m. Wednesday, while those aged between 38-54 can book their slot from noon.

The remaining eligible recipients aged 18 and above will be able to make an appointment from 2 p.m., the CECC said, adding that the website will stop accepting appointments at noon Friday.

Around 1.51 million doses will be available for this round of bookings, including 1.21 million doses of the Moderna vaccine, 206,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, 76,000 of the locally-produced Medigen vaccine, and 16,000 doses of AstraZeneca.

Those who wish to get their first or second doses of the vaccine cannot make an appointment via the 1922 platform, but they can book directly with hospitals, clinics, or government health centers, the CECC said.

To date, 82.84 percent of Taiwan’s population of 23.35 million have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, while 76.83 percent have gotten two doses.

Since the introduction of a third dose in late December, 41.44 percent of the population have received a booster shot, and 0.82 percent have been given an additional dose, which are third shots given to immunocompromised people who may not develop the same immune response level after two vaccination shots as others.
