People who received a COVID-19 vaccine jab abroad can register their vaccination through a dedicated online digital immunization database after returning to Taiwan, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Tuesday.

To do so they will need to visit the nearest public health center and present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate issued to them in the country where they were vaccinated, so such records can be registered on the National Immunization Information System (NIIS), according to the CECC.

The NIIS registration applies to anyone who received one or two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine abroad, CECC deputy head Chen Tsung-yen (???) said at a press briefing.

However, the vaccines recognized include only those approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) for emergency use, which currently include the AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Janssen, Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines, Chen said.

The yellow vaccination card given to those who get vaccinated in Taiwan, will not record a vaccine jab received overseas, he added.

This means people who have been fully vaccinated with two doses abroad will not receive a vaccination card even if they register with the NIIS.

As for those who received one jab overseas and get their second shot in Taiwan, the deputy head said the vaccination card will be issued to them without recording the first dose.

People are reminded not to lose the COVID-19 vaccination certificate they received from abroad, Chen said.

According to CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (???), the NIIS registration is voluntary.
