CORONAVIRUS/Reservations for government quarantine facilities to begin Wednesday

Travelers returning to Taiwan ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday will be able to book a room at government quarantine facilities from Wednesday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Those who plan to check in from Dec. 14 to Dec. 31 can make reservations starting from 10 a.m. Wednesday, while those arriving from Jan. 1 to Feb. 5 can do so from 10 a.m. on Nov. 23, the CECC said.

The bookings are only open to travelers who opt for the “7+7” quarantine policy, one of the three quarantine options laid out by the CECC in anticipation of a surge in arrivals before the Lunar New Year holiday from Jan. 29-Feb. 6.

Under the “7+7” policy, travelers will spend their first seven days in quarantine at government facilities or designated hotels, and the remaining seven days of quarantine at home.

This option is available only for travelers who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least two weeks prior to arriving in Taiwan. Accepted vaccines are those approved by the World Health Organization or Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration, according to the CECC.

There are 3,600 rooms available at government quarantine facilities, and the fee will be NT$1,500 (US$53.4) a night per person. Travelers will pay the full price of their stay when they make the reservation, and no cancellations, refunds, or changes to bookings will be granted.

Travelers will not be allowed to share a room at quarantine centers, with no exceptions, and neither can they choose which center to stay at, the CECC said.

They can, however, choose between staying in northern, central, or southern Taiwan, the CECC said.

Although the “7+7” policy will be in place from Dec. 14 to Feb. 14, the last day that people can check in at government quarantine centers is Feb. 5, meaning that those arriving between Feb. 6 and Feb. 14 will be required to stay in quarantine hotels.
