Elementary schools and kindergartens in Taipei are now allowed to conduct school field trips around Taiwan, the city government announced Wednesday as it begins to ease restrictions as the COVID-19 situation in the country improves.
Effective from Wednesday, the suspension of off-campus activities outside Taipei by elementary schools and kindergartens will be lifted, the Taipei City Department of Education said in a statement.
This follows a decision by the central government to relax some epidemic prevention measures as the coronavirus outbreak slows down, the department said.
However, only after parents and teachers reach a consensus, will off-campus field trips, or graduation trips be allowed to go ahead, the education department added.
Day trips should be be given priority when planning such events, and if there is a need for accommodation, hotels with comprehensive COVID-19 prevention measures in place should be prioritized, while students who travel on the same tour bus should stay in the same hotel when on field trips, according to the department.
It also suggested trip organizers select restaurants that comply with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, require students to undergo daily temperature screening for signs of possible COVID-19 infection, and give a pre-departure briefing on COVID-19 prevention measures to students and teachers.
