CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan grants EUA for updated Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines

Taiwan on Wednesday granted emergency use authorization (EUA) to second-generation COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Aside from immunity against the original COVID-19 strain, the adapted bivalent vaccines from both brands also target the omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of the virus.
Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) head Victor Wang (王必勝) said the CECC planned to procure between 600,000 to 700,000 doses from Moderna, adding the vaccines will likely arrive in November.
