Taiwan is expected to take delivery of another shipment of AstraZeneca (AZ) COVID-19 vaccine from South Korea on Friday, part of the AZ vaccine doses ordered from abroad.

Sources at Taoyuan International Airport told CNA on Thursday that a Korean Air flight carrying the vaccine will take off from Incheon at about 10:35 a.m. on Friday and is expected to arrive in Taiwan a little after noon.

The number of doses in the shipment will be announced by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), sources said.

Local media in Taiwan reported earlier in the day that the shipment will contain 265,000 doses of the AZ vaccine.

Media reports also said that 30,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine donated by the Czech Republic are expected to leave Prague Friday afternoon and arrive in Taiwan on Saturday morning.

Sources at the airport were unable to verify such reports.

Asked to confirm the reports, the CECC said in a message issued late Thursday that it will make an announcement on vaccine deliveries on Friday afternoon.

Taiwan has obtained more than 11 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to date, including 6.38 million doses of the AZ vaccine and 4 million doses of the Moderna vaccine from abroad, as well as 860,000 doses of the locally-developed Medigen vaccine.

In terms of the AZ vaccine, 609,600 doses were allotted by the COVAX platform to Taiwan, 2.4 million doses were purchased by Taiwan’s government, 3.3 million doses donated by Japan and 20,000 donated by Lithuania.
