COST OF LIVING/Taiwan offers NT$3,000 subsidies for replacement fridges, air conditioners

Taiwanese citizens and residents will be eligible for NT$3,000 (US$99.85) subsidies when replacing old refrigerators and air conditioning units with energy-efficient ones, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) announced Tuesday.

According to the MOEA's Bureau of Energy, consumers who purchase a replacement appliance rated "1" on Taiwan's five-tier energy efficiency scale in 2023 will be able to apply for a NT$3,000 rebate once they recycle their old units.

The bureau said that those applying for the rebate, which can be done online or through a vendor, must provide proof of purchase as well as a certificate issued by the Environmental Protection Agency stating that their old appliance has been disposed of correctly.

The subsidies are available to anyone with a Taiwan identity card or an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and can be redeemed online until Jan. 15, 2024 for purchases made between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 this year, the bureau added.
