The Japanese government announced Thursday plans to bestow honors on three Republic of China (Taiwan) nationals this fall, including Antonio Chiang (江春男), vice president of the General Association of Chinese Culture, for their contributions to enhancing relations between Taipei and Tokyo.
Chiang will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon for his many years of support for Taiwan research in Japan, according to the list of Taiwanese recipients and a statement posted by the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association on its Facebook page.

As the vice president of the association, Chiang strives to promote cultural exchanges between Japan and Taiwan, and has made outstanding contributions to the bilateral friendship. He has also been recognized for promoting awareness and understanding of Japan among the Taiwanese public as a media columnist, according to the Facebook post.
Meanwhile, Lai Ming-chu (賴明珠), the first Taiwanese to translate literature by popular Japanese writer Haruki Murakami, introducing him to readers in Taiwan, will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for her contributions to the popularization of Japanese culture and promotion of understanding of Japan in Taiwan, according to the post.
Tsai Shao-ching (蔡少卿), who served in the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association for 30 years and one month and was responsible for news and culture-related business, will receive the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays, according to the post.
