Taipei-Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued a cold weather advisory for New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli Friday, warning that temperatures in those regions could fall to as low as 10 degrees Celsius between Friday night and Saturday morning.
In addition to issuing a "yellow warning" for those regions -- indicating that temperatures at low altitudes could drop below 10 degrees -- the weather bureau also said a cold air mass, combined with a radiative cooling effect, will cause the mercury to drop across Taiwan overnight and during the early morning hours.
The bureau forecast that the effects of the cold mass will be felt through Sunday morning, with overnight lows of 12-14 degrees in areas of northern, central and eastern Taiwan.
In much of the country, the temperatures will rebound to 21-22 degrees on Sunday, and rise to 24-25 degrees by Tuesday, the CWB said.
In terms of precipitation, eastern Taiwan and regions north of Taoyuan can expect scattered showers during the day on Friday, with the chance of rain decreasing as night approaches, according to the CWB.
