Taipei: The final span of the Danjiang Bridge in New Taipei was installed on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in its construction. Once completed, this architectural marvel will hold the title of the world's longest asymmetric single-mast bridge. The ambitious project commenced seven years ago and has been steadily progressing towards its completion.
According to Focus Taiwan, the 920-meter Danjiang Bridge is designed to connect the Tamsui and Bali districts, providing an alternative route that will alleviate traffic congestion on the Guandu Bridge. This new connection is expected to significantly reduce travel times to Taoyuan International Airport and downtown Taipei, making commutes more efficient for thousands of daily travelers.
The bridge's design is credited to the late British architect Zaha Hadid, who found inspiration in the graceful movements of Taiwan's Cloud Gate Dance Theatre dancers. This influence is evident in the bridge's sweeping lines and elegant structure, which have captured the attention of both locals and tourists.
The installation of the final span drew public interest, with many gathering to witness this important phase of the project. As anticipation builds, the opening ceremony for the Danjiang Bridge is scheduled for May 9, 2026, with public access commencing on May 12, 2026.
