Taipei: The computer simulated part of this year's Han Kuang military exercises, Taiwan's biggest annual military drill, could be postponed due to the COVID 19 coronavirus outbreak, Defense Minister Yen De fa (???) said Monday.
"We are evaluating the possibility of pushing it back to the second half of the year," Yen said.
The annual Han Kuang military exercises consists of two stages: computer simulated war games followed by nationwide live fire drills.
According to Yen, the computerized war games were scheduled for April, but the ministry is now considering a postponement because it is held in an enclosed venue and is attended by all important army officials.
Yen did not say whether his ministry was also considering postponing the live fire drills, which are scheduled for May.
