Digital minister to attend forum on digital freedom in Lithuania

Digital Affairs Minister Audrey Tang (??) was headed to Lithuania on Monday night to attend a forum on democracy and digital freedoms, the ministry said in a statement.

Tang will attend the Free Digital Democracy Dialogue (F3D) on Jan. 12 on what will be her first trip abroad since she became head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA), which was formally opened in August 2022.

The forum is aimed at exploring the development possibilities, challenges and responses of democratic societies related to the accelerated growth of digital technology, the MODA said.

It will feature discussions among representatives of Lithuania’s electronics industry, academia and legal bodies on digital information exchanges, industry and information security, and related regulations.

Tang will discuss Taiwan’s approach to digital democracy and address her agency’s motto of “Free the Future” at the forum, which is being organized by the ministry and two Lithuanian institutions — the Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science and the Go Forward Academy.

According to the ministry, Tang will also meet with politicians in the Baltic State to discuss topics such as satellite technology, digital government services, information security, and financial technology.
