Taipei Kuo Kuo-wen a candidate from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), claimed victory in a legislative by-election held Saturday in Tainan.
Kuo beat Hsieh Lung-chieh of the opposition Kuomintang as well as independent candidates Chen Hsiao-yu Wu Ping-hui and Hsu Kuo-tung
Kuo used to serve as a deputy labor minister and as a Tainan city councilor.
The results had yet to be confirmed by the Central Election Commission.
