Taipei- A magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolted Chiayi, southern Taiwan at 1:48 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
The earthquake's epicenter was located in Zhongpu Township, 10.4 kilometers southeast of Chiayi City Hall, at a depth of 18.9 km, the bureau said.
The earthquake's maximum intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was measured at 4 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale in Chiayi City, while it measured three in Chiayi, Yunlin and Nantou counties and Tainan City, and two in Changhua County, Kaohsiung City and Penghu County.
The township had recorded five temblors from Wednesday afternoon through the night, with magnitudes ranging from 3.6 to 5.0.
