Taipei, Taipei-based EVA Air, one of Taiwan's largest airlines, has been ranked the world's sixth best airline for 2019 in a survey released at the Paris Air Show Tuesday by Skytrax, the United Kingdom's leading aviation service research agency.
EVA Air also topped the rankings for the world's cleanest airline and was named as having the best economy class airline catering.
Qatar Airways returned to the top spot at the 2019 Skytrax World Airline Awards. Last year, Singapore Airlines claimed first place. This is the fifth time the Gulf carrier has won the award, having previously won in 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017.
It is the first airline to win the world's best airline award five times since the rankings began in 1999, according to Skytrax.
Qatar Airways also won the award for world's best business class, world's best business class seat, and best airline in the Middle East.
Singapore Airlines, which is known for operating the world's longest flight from Singapore to New York, placed second but also won key awards including world's best cabin crew, world's best first class, best airline in Asia and world's best first class seat.
Among budget airlines reviewed, AirAsia won world's best low-cost airline and Japan Airlines won world's best economy class and economy class seat.
Rounding out the top 10 world's best airlines for 2019 were in descending order ANA All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, EVA Air, Hainan Airlines, Qantas Airways, Lufthansa and Thai Airways.
The World Airlines Awards are based on customer surveys conducted by Skytrax. More than 20 million survey entries were recorded from September 2018 to May 2019 for this year's awards, with voters coming from more than 100 countries, according to Skytrax.
