North Charleston, South Carolina-EVA Airways Corp., one of Taiwan's leading international carriers, took delivery Monday of another Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The Boeing 787-10 is the eighth Boeing 787 for EVA Air and also the fourth Boeing 787-10 for the carrier.
The airline has placed orders to buy 24 Boeing 787s, comprising four 787-9s and 20 787-10s. The delivery of the four Boeing 787-9s has already been completed, with delivery of the remaining 16 Boeing 787-10s scheduled to be completed by 2022.
EVA Air said it will deploy its new plane to serve planned services to Vancouver, set to start in the first quarter of next year, as well as for a new service to Brisbane scheduled to begin Wednesday.
EVA Air is the only Taiwanese carrier that operates the Dreamliner, Boeing's most important new plane in a generation and an immediate hit among carriers in the global market.
The Boeing 787-10, launched in June 2013, is the largest plane in the 787 Dreamliner family.
EVA President Clay Sun (???) took delivery of the plane at the manufacturer's production site in South Carolina and the new plane touched down at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Tuesday.
Sun said the Boeing 787-10s use lightweight carbon fiber in its structure, including the fuselage and wings, which cuts its weight significantly, making it more energy efficient. The model is suitable for medium to long haul routes.
According to EVA Air, the Boeing 787-10s have been designed to have 34 seats in Royal Laurel business class and 308 in economy, compared with 26 in Royal Laurel business class and 278 in economy for the 787-9 models.
The 787-10s also boasts a larger cargo capacity than its 787-9 counterpart.
Sun said EVA Air is studying a plan to further expand its fleet with the Boeing 737MAXs and the A321neos
Commenting on the carrier's services to North America, Sun said EVA Air has seen rising demand, so is planning to increase the number of flights to Chicago to seven from the current five per week, and the number of flights to Seattle to 13 from 10 next year.
Sun said services to North America are expected to account for 41 percent of EVA Air's total sales next year, up from the current around 39 percent.
In addition to Chicago and Seattle, EVA Air's destinations in North America include Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Houston and Toronto.
Sun said the company is studying the feasibility of launching flights to Boston, Washington, DC and Dallas in the future.
