Taipei, A half-marathon organized by EVA Airways that will take place Oct. 27 began accepting registrations Tuesday for participation in the event.
Runners can enroll online through June 12 with an entry fee of NT$1,100 (US$35), NT$800 for a 10-kilometer race and NT$500 for a 3-km race in Taipei, according to the airline.
The half-marathon will start at the Presidential Office plaza, EVA Air President Clay Sun said, adding that the annual event will give runners the chance to enjoy the beauty of Taipei, as the route will take the runners past some of Taipei's most well-known sights.
To boost the participation rate, the airline is cooperating with international marathon organizers so that runners who purchase EVA tour packages to Gold Coast in Australia, Hirosaki and Shikarami in Japan, Shanghai in China and Chiang Mai in Thailand will have a chance to earn free placements in marathons there, according to EVA.
In addition to inviting Taiwanese sports celebrities such as long- distance runners Chou Ting-yin and Hsieh Chien-ho as event endorsers, EVA is also offering 10 tickets for international flights to any destination, and 20 domestic flight tickets from Uni Airlines, a domestic and regional subsidiary of EVA Air as prizes.
EVA held the event for the first time last year attracting more than 18,000 runners from all over the world, according to Sun.
