Taipei, Temperatures in northern Taiwan are likely to drop to 13-14 degrees Celsius next week with the arrival of the first cold air mass of the winter, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Thursday.
The cold air mass is forecast to arrive Dec. 17, sending temperatures Dec. 17-18 down to 13-14 degrees in northern Taiwan, 14-15 degrees in central Taiwan and 17-18 degrees in southern Taiwan, according to the bureau.
The cold air mass is expected to bring sporadic showers to northern and northeastern Taiwan Dec. 17.
Beginning Dec. 19, temperatures across Taiwan are likely to return to a relatively warmer level as the cold air mass weakens, but the daytime-nighttime temperature gap is expected to remain wide, the bureau said.
Meanwhile, the mercury is forecast to rise over the weekend beginning Friday as northeasterly winds turn weaker, with daily highs hitting 21-23 degrees in northern Taiwan and 24-28 degrees in central and southern Taiwan, CWB forecaster Yen Tseng-hsi (???) said.
