Former finance minister Ho Chih-chin dies
Ho Chih-chin (???), former Finance Minister and incumbent National Taipei University president, died early Tuesday at National Taiwan University Hospital due to illness. He was 64.
Ho, who held a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan, served in the U.S. Department of the Treasury before returning to teach at National Taiwan University in 2003.
He served as finance minister from July 2006 to March 2008 under former President Chen Shui-bian (???), in which capacity he dedicated himself to reforming the consolidated income tax system and estate and gift tax systems.
He later served as a director at the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
After stepping down from public office in 2009, He returned to teaching and was chosen as president of National Taipei University in August 2015.
