Berlin: Former President Tsai Ing-wen will depart for Germany on Saturday to attend the Berlin Freedom Conference, where she is scheduled to give a speech, Tsai's office said Wednesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, Tsai Shu-ching, spokesperson for the office of Tsai Ing-wen, announced that the former president has been invited by the Berlin Freedom Conference to deliver a speech at the event, which will take place on November 10. This conference is part of the Berlin Freedom Week, scheduled for November 8-15.
The former president aims to help Taiwan deepen its relations and cooperation with Germany and other democratic partners in Europe through her trip, Tsai Shu-ching added. However, Tsai Ing-wen's office did not respond to questions from CNA regarding whether the former president is scheduled to visit other countries and how long her trip will last.
This will be Tsai Ing-wen's fourth public overseas trip since she left office in May 2024. The Berlin Freedom Conference is organized by visitBerlin, the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation, and the World Liberty Congress.
The inaugural conference, which commemorates the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, is aimed at advancing the values of freedom and democracy worldwide. Bringing together government officials, journalists, business representatives, and members of the public, the Berlin Freedom Week seeks to promote democratic and liberal values and encourage participants to take action for positive change.
