Taipei-Transport officials on Friday announced traffic control measures to be implemented on the nation's freeways during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival weekend to help avoid traffic congestion.
The measures will be in force from Sept. 13-15, with tolls suspended from midnight to 5 a.m., according to the Taiwan Area National Freeway Bureau.
The bureau suggested south-bound motorists should try to avoid peak hours, which will be the mornings of Sept. 13-14.
Likewise, those heading north are discouraged from traveling on the afternoons of Sept. 14-15, it added.
A unified rate of NT$0.9 (US$0.03) per kilometer will be adopted for the duration of the holiday period, a 25 percent discount from the standard rate.
Motorists traveling between the Hsinchu and Yanchao interchanges on National Freeway No. 3 will receive an additional 20 percent off, it said.
However, the standard toll-free first 20km of travel on all freeways will be suspended during the holiday, the bureau said.
