New York: Daniel Tsai and Richard Tsai, the brothers managing Fubon Financial Holding, have taken the top spot on Forbes' 2025 list of Taiwan's 50 richest individuals.According to Focus Taiwan, this announcement comes amid a backdrop of Taiwan's economy experiencing a 4.6 percent growth in 2024, marking its most rapid expansion in three years, driven largely by the semiconductor industry's performance.The stronger Taiwan dollar has significantly influenced the fortunes of the country's wealthiest, with their combined wealth increasing by 13 percent, from US$174 billion to US$197 billion. Forbes highlights that 36 individuals on the list saw their wealth grow over the past year. The Tsai brothers, reaching a net worth of US$13.9 billion, reclaimed the top position after a one-year hiatus, with their wealth rising by US$3.2 billion. This increase was attributed to a 16 percent surge in Fubon Financial Holding shares, spurred by expanded banking operations.Last year's leader, Barry Lam, fell to second pla ce, despite an 8 percent rise in his net worth to US$12.6 billion. Lam is recognized as the founder and chairman of Quanta Computer, the leading contract laptop manufacturer globally by sales volume. In third place are brothers Tsai Hong-tu and Tsai Cheng-ta, who head Cathay Financial Holdings, with a net worth of US$10.9 billion. Terry Gou, the founder of Hon Hai Precision, ranks fourth with a net worth of US$10.98 billion.The top five are completed by the Wei brothers, who control Tingyi, a major beverage and noodle company in China. Notably, Jeffery Koo Jr. and Angelo Koo saw the largest percentage gains in wealth, with their fortunes more than doubling to US$4.7 billion and US$3.3 billion, respectively, placing them 13th and 20th on the list.The list also features three newcomers, with two benefiting from the global increase in demand for AI servers. Lin Tsung-chi, founder of King Slide, ranks 24th with a net worth of US$2.9 billion. Meanwhile, Chao Chung-hsin and Chao Yung-tsang of Jentech Precision Industrial are ranked 32nd with US$2.1 billion.
