Taipei: Guatemalan President Bernardo Ar©valo will travel to Taiwan in June on a state visit, during which he will meet with President Lai Ching-te, he announced Monday.
According to Focus Taiwan, Ar©valo stated at a press conference that the trip aims to "boost the friendly collaborative ties with the great country" and advance bilateral projects related to Guatemala's technology development. He highlighted that a semiconductor delegation consisting of 30 Guatemalans from various sectors, cities, and companies is currently visiting Taiwan to participate in a high-tech conference.
Ar©valo further mentioned that Guatemala will host a conference in August, bringing together Taiwanese tech leaders, businesses, and Guatemalan officials to enhance bilateral cooperation and facilitate the establishment of Taiwanese high-tech businesses in Guatemala.
The delegation accompanying Ar©valo on his June trip to Taiwan will include Economy Minister Gabriela Garca-Quinn, Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martnez, and First Lady Lucrecia Peinado. The invitation for this visit was initially extended by President Lai during a video conference following Ar©valo's inauguration in January 2024, and was reiterated by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung during his visit to Guatemala in October 2024.
Guatemala remains one of the 12 countries maintaining formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
