Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Thursday issued a heat warning for several areas in southern Taiwan, predicting daytime temperatures to reach a high of 36 degrees Celsius in parts of Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County.According to Focus Taiwan, the areas under the "yellow" heat alert include Tainan's Yujing, Kaohsiung's Qishan and Neimen districts, and Pingtung's Changzhi, Jiuru, Ligang, Yanpu, and Neipu townships. Pingtung City is also expected to experience temperatures of 36 degrees on Thursday afternoon, the CWA reported.Elsewhere in Taiwan, daytime highs are anticipated to range from 29 to 34 degrees, marking a notable increase from the early morning lows of 20-23 degrees in northern, northeastern, and eastern regions. The CWA noted that skies across most of the country would be sunny to cloudy, with occasional showers expected in Keelung, coastal northern Taiwan, and the Matsu Islands. Brief afternoon thunderstorms are likely in mountainous areas.The CWA has also issued a s trong wind advisory for parts of Taiwan on Friday night, cautioning against winds reaching up to 38.88 kilometers per hour, with gusts of 62 kph. Areas under this advisory include the coastal districts of Tamsui, Shimen, Ruifang, and Gongliao in New Taipei; the townships of Checheng, Hengchun, and Menzhou in Pingtung; Orchid and Green islands off the southeastern coast; and the Matsu Islands.According to the CWA, pedestrians should remain vigilant for falling debris such as tree branches and unstable building fixtures. Additionally, "outdoor workers should take safety precautions," the CWA advised, warning that windy conditions might cause delays in public transportation.The weather forecast for most parts of Taiwan on Friday predicts cloudy conditions with potential afternoon thunderstorms, while sporadic showers are expected in Kinmen and Matsu. Moving into the weekend, an approaching weather front from the northeast is likely to bring brief showers to northern Taiwan late Friday. Foehn winds are foreca st to result in high temperatures in southeastern Taiwan, as per the CWA.The weather front is expected to persist into the weekend, bringing brief showers, thunderstorms, and downpours to western and northeastern Taiwan, with chances of rain in other areas, the CWA stated.
