Taipei:The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a heavy rain advisory for northern and eastern regions of Taiwan. This warning comes as a seasonal northeasterly wind system is expected to bring significant rainfall and cooler temperatures.
According to Focus Taiwan, the advisory is in effect for areas including Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and the eastern county of Hualien. The CWA warns of potential rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters in 24 hours or 100 millimeters within three hours, with the advisory remaining in effect through Monday night. Rainfall is anticipated to be more intense in windward areas.
The seasonal wind system will also result in lower temperatures in northern and eastern Taiwan, with daytime highs ranging between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius on Monday, compared to the previous day's highs of 32-34 degrees. Nighttime lows are forecast to drop to around 22 degrees. Should the winds persist, these low temperatures may continue into Tuesday and Wednesday, potentially dropping to 21-22 degrees, although the rain is expected to ease on Tuesday.
Central and southern Taiwan are projected to be less affected by the seasonal winds, maintaining daytime temperatures of 32-34 degrees and nighttime lows of 23-25 degrees. The wind system is expected to weaken on Thursday, with a new system arriving on Friday but not anticipated to be as strong. This suggests relatively stable weather conditions for the upcoming National Day weekend, particularly in central and southern regions.
Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong notes that temperatures in low-lying areas of northern and eastern Taiwan may fall to around 16 degrees from Wednesday through Friday due to possible radiative cooling, which occurs under clear skies, light winds, and dry conditions.
