Heavy Rain Advisory Issued for Northern Taiwan Amid Seasonal Winds

Taipei: A heavy rain alert was issued for parts of northern Taiwan on Tuesday due to ongoing seasonal northeasterly winds and cloud cover moving in from southern China, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA stated that a heavy rain advisory, indicating at least 80 millimeters of rain in 24 hours or 40 millimeters in one hour, has been issued for Keelung, Taipei, and New Taipei cities. This advisory will remain in effect through Tuesday night, as the regions brace for potential landslides in mountainous areas caused by the heavy downpours.

In other areas, the CWA noted that the weather is expected to remain stable, with only brief showers possible in Taoyuan City, Hsinchu and Miaoli counties in the north, Hualien County in the east, and mountainous regions in central Taiwan. Partly cloudy and sunny skies are anticipated in southern Taiwan, despite occasional showers.

The seasonal winds are expected to bring cooler weather to northern Taiwan, with temperatures ranging from 19 to 25 degrees Celsius during the day. In contrast, central and southern Taiwan, where the winds will have less impact, are forecasted to experience daytime temperatures between 28 and 31 degrees, dropping to 21-23 degrees at night.

Strong winds are predicted for Keelung and northern coastal areas, as well as Tainan and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south. Furthermore, the CWA reported that the eye of Typhoon Kalmaegi was located 1,310 kilometers south-southeast of Cape Eluanpi, Taiwan's southernmost point, as of 2 a.m. Tuesday. The typhoon is expected to move through the central Philippines and then head toward the Spratly Islands and Vietnam, with no direct impact on Taiwan anticipated.
