Taipei: Heavy rain was forecast for 11 counties and cities in Taiwan on Sunday afternoon, while the temperature hit 38.2 degrees Celsius in Taipei’s Shilin District at 2 p.m., according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
According to Focus Taiwan, the weather agency issued a heavy rain alert at 2:55 p.m. for New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi City and County, Tainan, Pingtung, Hualien, and Taitung. Additionally, Kaohsiung was placed under an extremely heavy rain alert, with the effects expected to last through Sunday night.
Meanwhile, CWA data showed that the temperature reached 38.2 degrees Celsius at the Shezi weather station in Taipei’s Shilin District at 2 p.m., followed closely by 37.4 degrees at the nearby Science Education Center station at 1:40 p.m. Taipei, New Taipei, and Yuanlin City in Changhua County all recorded temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius before 3 p.m. Sunday, marking them as the hottest urban areas in Taiwan that day.
