Heavy rain warning issued for 9 cities, counties
Taipei--The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued a heavy rain warning Tuesday for nine cities and counties in northern and central Taiwan as a weather front brought abundant moisture to the island.
Warnings were issued for the cities of Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu along with Hsinchu and Miaoli counties in the north as well as Taichung City and Nantou County in central Taiwan.
The wet weather will last until Friday, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the CWB.
Strengthening northeasterly winds, meanwhile, will bring temperatures down slightly over the next few days, the bureau said.
Daytime highs in northern Taiwan are forecast at 26-27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 22-24 degrees between Wednesday and Friday, while overnight temperatures are expected to fall to 18 degrees, the bureau said.
In central and southern Taiwan, however, daytime temperatures could still reach 30 degrees, according to the bureau.
It forecast that the weather around Taiwan will turn warm and sunny again during the weekend, when northeasterly winds are expected to weaken.
