High-Speed Rail Introduces ‘Quiet Travel’ Guidelines to Enhance Passenger Experience

Taipei: Passengers on Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) will be required to use headphones and make phone calls in gangways under new "quiet travel" rules starting September 22.

According to Focus Taiwan, THSR Chairman Shih Che announced that the rail service will launch a three-month promotional campaign aimed at ensuring the widespread adoption of these new guidelines. The initiative seeks to create a more peaceful travel environment by promoting self-discipline among passengers.

Individuals who repeatedly fail to adhere to the "quiet travel" rules face the potential termination of their transport contract. This enforcement could lead to them being escorted off the train, as per the guidelines shared by THSR.

Shih emphasized the importance of cultivating an environment conducive to rest and reading for the train's passengers. He noted that while previous attempts to encourage silence through public announcements have largely been ineffective, the new rules represent a shift towards more structured measures.

He further added that tranquility within train carriages is considered "a mark of high-quality service," and that significant resources will be dedicated to educating passengers about the new regulations during the promotional period.
