Taipei--The weather across Taiwan on Tuesday will be sunny and hot, with daytime highs expected to hit 34-37 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Bureau has forecast.
The mercury could climb to 37 degrees in the greater Taipei area and to between 34 and 36 degrees in the rest of the country, with afternoon showers highly likely in mountainous areas, especially in central and southern Taiwan, the bureau said.
It noted the presence of several tropical disturbances in the South China Sea and in waters east of the Philippines and said some of them might gain strength and develop into tropical storms over the next few days.
But the bureau could not predict if any of them will influence Taiwan, saying it will depend on their future development and course.
It also reminded travelers heading for Vietnam to be on the alert as Tropical Storm Sonca, the eighth storm that has formed in this year's Pacific typhoon season, will soon make landfall in the central part of that country.
Meanwhile, the air quality across Taiwan and on its outlying islands is expected to be generally good in southern and eastern Taiwan and good to fair in central and northern Taiwan, according to the Environmental Protection Administration's Air Quality Monitoring Network.
