Brisbane: Taiwanese tennis veteran Hsieh Su-wei and her Latvian partner Jelena Ostapenko secured the WTA Brisbane International women's doubles title with a commanding performance on Saturday. The top-seeded duo triumphed over Ellen Perez of Australia and Cristina Bucsa of Spain in straight sets.
According to Focus Taiwan, Hsieh and Ostapenko dominated the final from the outset. In the first set, they quickly established control, breaking early to lead 3-0 and saving three break points before closing the set 6-2. Their momentum carried into the second set, where they raced to a 4-0 lead and eventually sealed the match 6-1.
This victory at the Brisbane tournament, a WTA 500 event, marked the first time Hsieh won a title alongside Ostapenko. It also provided the 40-year-old with added confidence ahead of the Australian Open. Prior to this, Hsieh had captured a total of 36 women's doubles titles on the WTA Tour with nine different partners. She enjoyed the most success with China's Peng Shuai, with whom she won 12 titles, and Barbora Strycova, with 10 titles.
Ostapenko became the 10th partner to lift a WTA trophy alongside Hsieh, further cementing Hsieh's reputation as a versatile doubles specialist.
